SERVICES

OSTEOPATHY

Osteopathy is a system of diagnosis and treatment for a wide range of medical conditions. It works with the structure and function of the body. Osteopaths may use touch, physical manipulation, taping, stretching, acupuncture and massage to increase the mobility of joints, to relieve muscle tension, to enhance the blood and nerve supply to tissues, and to help your body’s own healing mechanisms. They may also provide advice on posture and exercise to aid recovery, promote health and prevent symptoms recurring. Osteopathic patients include the young, older people, manual workers, office professionals, pregnant women, children and sports people.

SPORTS MASSAGE

Sports Massage is the management, manipulation and rehabilitation of soft tissues of the body including muscles, tendons and ligaments. It is applicable not just to sports people but to anybody wishing to guard against or recover from a soft tissue injury. The benefits can also help relieve the many day to day problems, repetitive strain injury, sprains, tension, fatigue, that everyone experiences. The aim of a rehabilitation program is to regain pre-injury levels in all aspects of physical fitness. Rehabilitation programs should aim to restore muscle strength, endurance and power, improve flexibility, proprioception and balance as well as more sports specific or functional exercises.

KINESIO SPORTS TAPING

The Kinesio tape is designed to facilitate the body’s natural healing process while allowing support and stability to muscles and joints without restricting the body’s range of motion. It is used to successfully treat a variety of orthopaedic, neuromuscular, neurological and medical conditions For rehabilitation purposes, the opposite direction is stretched and taped. The goal is to help the muscles work with proper biomechanics. In addition, the tape aids in proper blood flow and lymphatic drainage, further rehabilitating damaged muscle or aiding in avoiding injury.

DRY NEEDLING (ACUPUNCTURE)

Dry needling is an invasive procedure where a fine needle or acupuncture needle is inserted into the skin and muscle. It is aimed at myofascial trigger points (MTrP) which are hyper-irritable spots in skeletal muscle that are associated with a hypersensitive palpable nodule in a taut band. Trigger point dry needling can be carried out at superficial or deep tissue level.

WHAT TO EXPECT FROM YOUR APPOINTMENT

1. INITIAL CONSULTATION

The initial consultation focuses on you having the opportunity to discuss your health in depth. The initial questioning includes describing the character of pain/complaint, aggravating and relieving factors and the onset as well as progression of symptoms. The practitioner will carry out an assessment of movement, posture and a combination of orthopedic tests and system examinations (cardiology, respiratory, abdominal and neurological) where applicable to determine a diagnosis.

2. DIAGNOSIS

A diagnosis of the underlying cause will be discussed and explained how it can be resolved. A diagnosis is beneficial as gives reasoning as to why certain movements aggravate pains. A time frame of how longer recovery should be is also discussed based on the diagnosis.

3. HANDS ON TREATMENT

A treatment plan will be made which is individually tailored to you! The treatment plan will include hands on Osteopathic treatment that incorporates physical manipulation, stretching, massage to reduce muscle tension, increase mobility and further enhance blood supply to tissues which further aids the body’s own healing mechanism.

4. EXERCISE PLANS

Exercise, lifestyle and nutrition based plans are also incorporated in the treatment plan to give you the tools to self-manage for long term improved health. Exercises given will be progressed each time in further consultations to aid recovery alongside hands on treatment.
